Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant, and it's four different things inside one platform. Most people only ever use the first one.
Keep reading and you'll know exactly what Cowork does for your business. Then pick your path at the bottom. Delegate Your First Task to AI is my free interactive DIY guide to set up Claude Cowork in 7 easy steps. And join my upcoming Claude Cowork Workshop for Real Estate Professionals on September 23, where we set it up together live and you finish the session with an agent already running.
An AI agent can plan, think and execute on a loop. A chatbot answers once and waits.
An agent takes the goal you give it, works out a plan, step by step, runs them, checks the result, and keeps going until the task is done. AI agents can access your files, data and tools you connect it with.
Take any one of these away and you are back to a chatbot.
Put those together and you get a team of AI agents that can take tasks off your plate, not just answer back.
Hand these five off tonight and they're waiting for you before the coffee is ready.
All of it can run on a schedule, using your browser to do research on any site, update your systems, and work your calendar and inbox while you're with a client.
Any task you do more than once per day, you should start handing it over to your AI agent.
They're good at different things, and plenty of people pay for both. ChatGPT is the better generalist chat. Claude Cowork is stronger at running long multi-step jobs against your own files and tools, which is the part that saves you hours rather than minutes. I broke down the ChatGPT side separately in how to use ChatGPT for real estate agents.
You need the Claude Pro plan or higher, which is $20 a month. That's the whole cost. There's no separate charge for Cowork.
Yes, and this trips up almost everyone. Cowork lives in the Claude desktop app, which you download and install on your computer. You will not find it in the browser version.
No. It sees the folders you connect and nothing else. Nothing is connected by default, and it asks before acting on anything it hasn't been cleared for.
Connect the specific folder a job needs instead of your whole drive, and leave anything confidential out of the folders you connect. Check your firm's own policy on client data before you connect anything, because that rule is theirs to set, not mine.
The repetitive, multi-step work you already do the same way every time. Research, drafting, formatting, data pulled from one place and put into another, anything that follows a process you could write down. Start with one job, not ten.
No. Cowork was built for people who don't, which is the difference between it and Claude Code. You describe what you want in plain English. Setting it up means clicking through settings and organizing folders, not writing anything.
To use Claude Cowork you download and install the Claude desktop app, and you'll need the Pro plan or higher at $20 a month.
Getting it set up right, your workspace, your folders, your first connected tool, takes a bit of one-time work. Call it 30 minutes if you're following along with something rather than poking at it on your own.
I built a free interactive guide that walks you through exactly that, step by step.

Skip the trial and error. Instead of working through the setup on your own, you can do the whole thing with me on a live call and leave with it running.
I'm reopening my Claude Cowork Workshop for Real Estate Professionals on Wednesday, September 23rd at 11am ET. We build your workspace, connect your first tool, and hand your first real task to an agent during the session, not after it.
